Words that mean different things
A few everyday words are used in more than one place in Markular. This page pins down what they mean so you know which one you are looking at.
"Schedule"
Most of the time, your schedule is the work planned for you over time: the on and off days you are assigned, backward and ahead. It shows up in a few places under slightly different names, but they all describe the same thing: when and which days you work. The one exception is Timekeeper's Work Schedules, which is about hours per day, not which days.
- Rotation: the on/off cycle you are planned on, such as three weeks on and three weeks off. This is what actually decides which days are working days. Set up in Planner.
- My Schedule (Workspace): your own scheduled work as a calendar, past and future: the on and off days from your rotation, plus any activities. It is your personal view of your rotation. See View my schedule.
- Schedule board (Planner): the planning grid where planners build and read everyone's rotations, jobs, and demands over time. See Read the plan.
- Work Schedules (Timekeeper → Settings): the exception. These are daily start-and-end-hour templates (for example 07:00–15:00, 7.5 hours), held per country. They define how long a standard workday is, not which days you are on. They feed onshore timesheet defaults and the Recalculate action. See Manage work schedules.
So: an offshore timesheet is pre-filled from your rotation (which days you work), not from a Timekeeper Work Schedule.
"Shift" and "shift pattern"
- Shift: a single daily working pattern, such as a day shift or a night shift, with its own start and end times.
- Shift pattern: a named group of shifts that belong together, such as a "12 Hour Shift" pattern holding a Day shift and a Night shift. In Planner settings you manage shift patterns; the individual shifts live inside them.
