Move a job to new dates
When a job slips or extends, its dates change and so does everything staffed against it. Rather than edit each person by hand, Planner walks you through a preview that shows exactly who is affected and lets you decide what happens to each of them. By the end of this tutorial you will have moved a job to new dates with full control over its people. You need the Plan rotations permission.
Step 1: Change the dates
Open the job's Details and change its start or end dates.
If the job has demands with people assigned, an impact summary appears straight away. It tells you how many demands and how many people the change touches, and flags any scheduling conflicts it can already see. This is a preview only. Nothing has moved yet.
When you save a job that has assigned people, Planner does not apply the change silently. Instead it opens the move wizard so you can review the impact first.

Step 2: Adjust the demands
The wizard opens on Adjust demands. Here you decide how each demand's dates should follow the job:
- Shift all demands by the same number of days the job moved. This is the usual choice and keeps every demand in the same position relative to the job.
- Adjust each demand individually if some demands should move differently from the job, for example one that starts later than the rest.
If you shortened the job and a demand now reaches past the new end, Planner fits that demand to the job and flags anyone who would fall outside it on the next step. The job's dates always win.
Step 3: Review the personnel
Review personnel is where the real decisions happen. Everyone assigned to the job is listed with their current dates, their proposed new dates, and a status:
- OK. Moves cleanly with no conflict.
- Unchanged. Their dates do not actually move.
- Extends past job end. Their assignment now runs past the shortened job.
- Warning. The new dates fall in the person's rest period, which means overtime.
- Conflict. The new dates clash with another commitment, such as another job or an approved absence.
- Blocked. A hard clash that cannot simply be moved over.
For each person you choose an action:
- Move applies the new dates.
- Skip leaves that person on their current dates.
- Remove from job takes the person off the job entirely.
- Trim to job end shortens an over-running assignment back to fit. This appears for people flagged as extending past the job end.
You can set an action per person, or use the batch control to set a whole group at once. For safety, removing people is always a deliberate per-person choice and never a batch default, and a real conflict can never be silently moved over.
Reading the rest-time hints
For offshore work, each person's new dates can show a rest-time hint, comparing the rest before or after the move against the neighbouring tour. These are informational only and never block a move. They exist to help you make the rest and overtime call yourself.
Two things are worth knowing when you read them:
- Abroad tours are flagged, not judged. A tour abroad follows different rest rules, so Planner marks it rather than calling it short.
- Standby time currently counts as rest. A gap can therefore look longer than the true rest actually is. Treat a comfortable-looking hint with a little caution if standby sits inside it.

Step 4: Confirm and move
The Confirm step summarises the outcome with counts of who is moving, trimmed, unchanged, skipped, or removed, followed by a per-demand and per-person breakdown so the final screen stands on its own.
Read the confirmations that apply to your move:
- Overtime acknowledgement. If anyone is being moved into their rest period, you must tick a checkbox confirming the overtime is intended before the move can run.
- Rest-period recalculation. If your organisation has automatic time-off in lieu enabled, Planner notes that rest periods for the moved offshore tours will be recalculated to follow the new dates.
- Timesheet caution. If your organisation uses Timekeeper and the move touches past dates, Planner warns you. Scheduled hours re-project onto the new dates automatically, but hours people have already entered or had approved stay put, so review those after the change.
When you are satisfied, run the move. Planner shows a results screen confirming what changed.
